Kites

I've been bitten by the Kite bug. In an effort to entertain the family for a day at a local kitefest I stopped at a kite shop to buy us some kites. We'll in addition to traditional kites, they had a backroom. It was filled with Stunt Kites. Of course I needed my own kite, so I purchased a beginners dual line stunt kite, a Grasshopper to be precise.

It takes about an hour of non-stop frustration to get the hang of a two line stunt kite. When you finally have control you can fly the kite across the sky with ease.

Most beginner kites come with Dacron lines. These are great for learning because of their inherint stretch. Once I had control it was time for tighter control and I moved up to Spectra Gold lines. I always though of these lines as kite string ... but with Stunt kites it is 'line', and the characteristics must be taken into account. Spectra has 10 times the strength on steel, and actually sings in a high wind.

As you can see by the photos on the right, I've contiunued buying kites and have a blast flying them.

Prism Prophecy - described by some as the Rolls Royce of Sport Kites. The wingspan is 8 feet.

The Grasshopper - cut my teeth on this little gem - wingspan is about 4 feet.

Reflex Espresso - with a wingspan of about 6 feet is a wonderful all round kite.

The 9 foot Thunderfoil - an eye opener as it swoops across the sky.

Voodoo - rumored to be a very good trick kite ... we'll see.

Revolution 1.5 SLE ... my first quad-line kite

333 - This is a three line stunt kite ... very unique. It measures about 18 inches across.
